AURORA BALL 2010

29th May 2010, Ashdale Hall, Westhill.
Programme coming soon!
Music by Sandy Nixon and his band.

SIVO Dance Festival, 29th July – 2nd August 2009

Aurora dancers and musicians travelled to Odoorn in the Netherlands to take part in the 20th anniversary SIVO International Dance Festival along with dance groups from all over the world. You can watch a short clip from one of our performances, filmed by an enthusiastic fan of Scottish dance.

Term dates, 2009 – 2010

The last class of the autumn term will be on Thursday 19th December and classes resume after New Year on 7th January 2010.

The last class before Easter will be on Thursday 25th March, then we have a two-week break, recommencing on 15th April.

The final class of this session will be on Thursday 1st July. We expect to resume after the summer on 19th August.

AURORA HOMECOMING BALL 2009

The theme of our 2009 Ball was ‘homecoming’, with each table decorated to represent one of the countries which Aurora has visited, or the home country of an Aurora member, so the hall was full of colour!

We chose to donate the proceeds of our raffle to the Archie Foundation in memory of Jenna Lane, a popular and vivacious member of Aurora. Thanks to the generosity of the dancers who attended, we were able to make a donation of £200 to this local charity.

If you’re interested, you can still read about the 2009 Aurora Ball.

Aurora Weekend Away 2009

Once again we enjoyed a weekend of walking, games, relaxation and even some dancing at the Highland Adventure Centre in Glenisla in February 2009. Keep a look out for photos in our Gallery!

Dance writing competition

Our dance writing competition in June 2008 attracted entries from ten Aurora members, who were inspired to create an impressive range of reels, jigs, strathspeys and medleys of an amazingly high standard. There could only be one winning dance, which turned out to be “O’er the Hills” a jig for 4 couples in a square set, devised by Miriam Weibye. Congratulations to Miriam!

The dances submitted for the competition have now been published in the Aurora Second Book Scottish Country Dances, with copies now available from our online shop.

Aurora Masked Ball 2008

The 2008 Aurora Masked Ball on Saturday 24th May was a great success, with Sandy Nixon and his band creating a wonderful atmosphere. Our raffle in aid of CLAN raised an amazing £160!

Aurora Away Weekend 2008

In February 2008 about 20 Aurora members set off for the Highland Adventure Centre in Glenisla for an Away Weekend of dancing, walking and games. The catering was excellent and the accommodation very comfortable – but now that they know us, will we be allowed back in 2009?
