Sandy Nixon and his band will be keeping us on our toes again this year. Put Saturday 25th May in your diary. Programme and Tickets now available.
As part of the Aberdeenshire Celebrates! week, we’re offering the opportunity to try out some simple Scottish country dancing. If you find your toes tapping in time to traditional music, this is your chance to give it a go.
We meet from 7.30 to 9pm on Thursdays in the gym at Dyce Primary School and we look forward to making new friends on 21st February!
Not to be deterred by the raging snowstorm outside, Aurora and friends gathered at Newmachar to commemorate Rabbie Burns. A selection of photos from the evening can be found in our Burns Supper album.
We thought we’d have a ‘posh’ venue for a change, so this year’s Away Weekend was held on February 8-10th at Burgie House near Forres. In keeping with the venue we decided to dress for dinner and hold a lively dance afterwards. You can see photos in our online album.
In August 2012 Aurora hosted a visit by the
Groupe Folklorique du Pays de Hanau from Bouxwiller in Alsace. We loved their colourful costumes and lively performances when we made our trip to Alsace in 2011 and we were delighted when they accepted our invitation to perform in Aberdeen.
The highlight of their visit was a ceilidh at the Forum on Friday 10th August.
On Saturday 11th August shoppers at Union Square enjoyed performances which also featured displays of Scottish dancing by members of Aurora, accompanied by the Aurora ceilidh band.
Sunday 12th August saw the group head to Crathes Castle where their performance attracted an appreciative audience.
Once again our ball this year was held at the Ashdale Hall in Westhill, with Sandy Nixon’s Band providing lively music appropriate for a glittering evening when we all brought out our diamonds. You can still see the programme here.
